About this Showroom
I've been in education for 34 years. I have a B.A. in Elementary ed, M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with certification as a school librarian, and a Ph.D. in Literacy. I've taught as a classroom teacher, librarian, and as a professor training teachers. After selling my house, car, and all of my belongings, in what I called my Condo-A-Go-Go sale, I moved to Guatemala to teach Pre-K. Circumstances then led me to the Shenandoah Valley. Now I am a reading specialist in an elementary school 5 minutes from my house. I love my commute! I spent my last year building my forever home. I love decorating, so I’ve enjoyed pulling together pieces of my past. My house tells a story. Everywhere I look holds special memories. For example, my guest bedroom curtains are trimmed with lace and buttons from my mom's wedding dress. My living room has a piece of stained glass I made into a window from the pump house of the farm I grew up on. Inside my front door is an installation of doorknobs that I made with my dad. My kitchen has 5 feet tall paintings of corn from Guatemala that remind me of the cornfields growing up on the farm, as well as the importance of corn to Central America. I call my house my treehouse. The deck space is like living in the treetops. My house is on a slope, so the deck hangs out about 35 feet above the ground. When the leaves are off, you have great views of the West Virginia mountains and spectacular sunsets. I love it when the leaves are out. Who doesn't love sitting in the treetop? I grew up in rural, flat Indiana surrounded by corn and soybean fields. I adore that I now look out over gorgeous mountains. I live in a small city, but out on the deck, you feel like you are in the country. I hear cows moo. I see the stars again. I love watching the sunset and seeing the stars come out in the evening. My deck definitely has the “paz y tranquilidad” feel. My Outer furniture just added comfort and made it that much more joyful of an experience. Now I have somewhere to curl up and drink a cup of coffee in the morning or a dirty martini in the evening.
