Peaceful Backyard Patio in Wilmette, IL
About this Showroom
I am a retired software company executive now managing my own private equity investment portfolio and advisory firm from the office above my garage. I love college football; in particular my alma mater Notre Dame. My youngest is into cars so we have two current project cars—a 1961 MGA and a 1991 VW Corrado. My older son loves engineering and building and destroying things, so we do a lot of Rube Goldberg machine construction. Birthday parties generally involve fireworks and backyard contraptions like a 20 x 20-foot naval war arena. We love to host parties at our house, which includes a Western-themed bourbon bar, although we’re hosting in our backyard more and more these days. We are fortunate to have a large enough lot with room for kids to play wildly while parents relax socially. Our outdoor space includes a backyard patio with an upper deck seating area and a lower seating area flanked by a newly installed hot tub. The hot tub has an infinity edge on one side that allows for a waterfall/water element sound. We recently installed two TVs and both the patio and yard are wired for sound. We often grill and barbecue out on the Green Egg. I really love the lower level seating area and that is where we’ve put the Outer sectional. At night, we activate the landscape lighting that illuminates the trees and devotional garden. The garden has a small statue of the Virgin Mary, something we installed when my late wife was battling cancer. It is a really comforting and soothing environment with lots of good memories. We love to gather with friends and family and regale one another with old stories while drinking Bourbon. She was the extrovert and I was the introvert and we love carrying on her many social traditions.
