Eight Years Outside: What 19 Customer Stories Taught Us
To mark our eighth anniversary, we revisited the people and places at the heart of Outer’s journey—discovering how life outside has unfolded years later.
Eight years ago, Outer began with a simple belief: spending time outside should feel as effortless as being at home.
The true measure of that idea would take years. It had to weather rain and snow, adapt to growing families and muddy paws, welcome old friends, and frame both quiet mornings and celebrations no one wanted to end.
For our eighth anniversary, we listened again. Nineteen customers invited us back into their outdoor spaces and showed us what truly remains after furniture becomes a quiet part of everyday life.
19 Customers.
Years of real life.

The best outdoor design removes the labor.
Across the interviews, low-maintenance convenience was never a small feature. It was the defining factor between admiring a patio and actually living in it.
The ability to uncover a dry, clean seat after the rain meant fewer chores and more carefree time outside.
“I just flip the covers open—and everything is ready.”

Made for years, not just seasons.
What truly endures goes far beyond frame and fabric. It was the confidence to leave furniture outside, knowing that the space would remain part of the home.
“I bought this sofa three years ago, and it looks like I bought it last month.”

Jessica & Walter
For Jessica, the sofa became Walter’s favorite perch, secret hiding place and the center of his annual birthday party.

Seven years in Sherry’s backyard.
Sherry was one of Outer’s earliest Neighborhood Showroom hosts in New Jersey. Her home became a place where people could see, touch and experience quality outdoor living.
“If people are going to spend that amount of money, they want to see it before they buy it.”
Seven years later, the same furniture has held quiet afternoons with a book, cold-weather porch time and a gathering of one hundred guests.
